Formerly the Amalgamated Association of Street Railway Employees of America and affiliated with the American Federation of Labor in 1893, (1903) the Amalgamated Association of Street and Electric Railway Employees of America, the Amalgamated Association of Street, (1934) Electric Railway and Motor Coach Employees of America and assumed its present name in 1964. Holda national affiliation with AFL-CIO. Members are metropolitan, interstate, and school bus drivers; paratransit, light rail, subway, streetcar, and ferry boat operators; mechanics and other maintenance workers; clerks, baggage handlers, municipal employees, and others.
