Society of Professional Journalists

Founded at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana in 1909 as Sigma Delta Chi; became the Society of Professional Journalists, Sigma Delta Chi in 1972; assumed its present name in 1988. SPJ is dedicated to the perpetuation of a free press as the cornerstone of the nation and liberty. Membership is comprised of men and women in every field of journalism. Maintains over 300 local professional and campus chapters. Membership: $75 (Professional); $37.50 (Retired/Household/Post Grad/College Student); $1,000 (Lifetime); $20 (Associate).
