Formerly (1961) National Association of Investment Companies. Absorbed the Association of Mutual Fund Plan Sponsors in 1973, the Unit Investment Trust Association in 1985, and the Association of Publicly Traded Investment Funds in 1987. Members are open-end and closed-end investment companies registered under the Investment Company Act of 1940, and their advisers and principal underwriters, as well as unit investment trust sponsors. ICI's mission is to encourage adherence to ethical standards by all industry participants; advancing the interests of funds, their shareholders, directors, and investment advisers; and promoting public understanding of mutual funds and other investment companies.The annual membership dues are based on the total net assets of the funds in the group.
