A federation of state associations of health care facilities formed by a merger of the American Association of Nursing Homes and the National Association of Registered Nursing Homes (founded in 1949). Formerly (1974) the American Nursing Home Association. Absorbed (1984) National Council of Health Centers. AHCA's mission is to provide a spectrum of patient/resident-centered care and services which nurture not only the individual's health, but their lives as well, by preserving their connections with extended family and friends.
