Founded as the American Association of Public Accountants. Became the Institute of Accountants in the U.S.A. in 1916 and the American Institute of Accountants in 1917. Merged in 1937 with the American Society of Certified Public Accountants. Became the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants in 1957. AICPA's mission is to provide members with the resources, information, and leadership that enable them to provide services in a professional manner to benefit the public as well as employers and clients.
