American Nurses Association
Incorporated in 1901 as the Nurses Associated Alumnae of the United States and Canada. Became the American Nurse's Association in 1911 and was incorporated in the District of Columbia in 1917. ANA advances the nursing profession by fostering better standards of nursing practice, promoting the rights of nurses in the workplace, projecting a positive and realistic view of nursing, and by lobbying the Congress and regulatory agencies on health care issues affecting nurses and the public.
